Experimental Studies on the Effect of Homasan

Abstract
In order to investigate experimentally the clinical effect of Homasan that was pre-scribed to cure pruritus, atopic dermatitis etc., the author experimented various activities of Homasan extract to find mainly antihistamine effect.
The following results were obtained;
1. The spontaneous momentum of isolated ileum of rats was restricted, and relaxing effect on smooth muscle of digestive organs were recognized by antiacetylcholine and antibarium chloride effect in rats, and by antihistamine effect in guinea pig.
2. The inhibitory effect was recognized on the increased vascular permealbility induced by histamine in mice.
3. The protective effect was recognized significantly on the lethality induced by histamine in mice
4. The inhibitory effect was recognized on the ulcer formation induced by histamine in rats
5. The antinflammantory effect was recognized significantly on the rat paw edema induced by histamine
6. The antihistamine effect was observed on tracheal stripchain of guinea-pig.
7. Blood pressure decrease in rabbits was recognized.
According to the above results, it is recognized that Homasan has relaxing effect on smooth muscle of digestive organs and antihistamine effect. It is assumed that effects based on oriental medical references are approximate to the actual experimental results.
